Our Story

South African Women in Mining Investment Holdings (SAWIMIH) was established in October 2003 to accelerate the meaningful participation of Black women in South Africa's mining industry. Born from the vision of the South African Women in Mining Association (SAWIMA), which was founded in 1999 through an initiative of the Department of Mineral and Energy, SAWIMIH was created to address the historical underrepresentation of women in one of the country's most important economic sectors.
Today, SAWIMIH is a proudly Black women-owned and managed investment company, bringing together shareholders from all nine provinces of South Africa. Our broad-based ownership model reflects our commitment to inclusive economic transformation, sustainable growth, and empowering women to become influential leaders within the mining industry.

Our Journey
Milestones
2003
South African Women in Mining Investment Holdings is officially registered, bringing together women shareholders from across South Africa with a focus on economic participation in mining.
2004–2008
SAWIMIH participates in major empowerment and investment opportunities, including investments linked to Exxaro, Sasol Inzalo, Sasol Public, Incwala and Ditswamung.
2015
A restructured board is established with a renewed focus on addressing shareholder concerns and strengthening governance.
2024
SAWIMIH partners with Vunani Securities on an EXXARO share-buying initiative designed to give shareholders greater access to investment opportunities and financial participation.
